“Perfection is the Enemy of Progress”
I have no idea who said this first, but it has stuck with me since I heard it while taking an online course. If you wait until a piece of work is perfect to post, to publish, or to make public, then you will never do it - ever.
“We are Human Beings not Human Doings.”
I was in a meditation room in Clubhouse when I heard this. It’s called “The Meditation Room” if anyone wants to join. Highly recommend. The lead meditator really blew my mind with this quote. I never really listened to that phrase before. It reminded me of the first time I saw how the word “familiarize” was actually spelled. I have said that word countless times, and I consider myself smart, so I was disappointed to find I didn’t know how to spell it. I experienced a similar shock to my system when I realized we are human beings. Our consciousness is what separates us from other species so we should cherish that.
“Think Beyond Your Current Situation and Project to Where You Want to Be” (Not Astral Projection)
I was reading a self help book, and one thing it recommended was to spend 15 minutes of every day to daydream. Daydream about things that may not have went your way that day and how they would have went your way if everything went your way. Daydream about your wildest fantasies, places you’ve never been, foods you’ve never eaten, things you can’t afford to buy. Apparently this helps you in some way.
“See the Humanity in People Despite Disagreeing with Them”
I have no idea where this one came from, but I like it. Maybe I even coined it. I think this is fairly important given today’s climate. Unless someone is scum of the earth, disagreeing with them about things like politics or lifestyle choices shouldn’t be a reason to dehumanize them or want to eliminate them from the gene pool. We CAN still make fun of each other though.
“Wisdom Begins with Wonder”
When you stop wondering about how the world works, you not only risk becoming boring at parties, but you neglect your human spirit of curiosity. Remember when we were younger and the old people couldn’t stop saying ya never stop learning. Well you should never stop wondering.
“Creativity is a Combination of Discipline and Childlike Spirit.”
You should think about this one.
“Grow to Only Love Those Who Love You.” - Ellen Fein
“Someone Else’s Best Does not Have to be Good Enough for You.” - Michaela Pink
I love this one. It is all right there. The best someone else can offer does not have to be what you accept. The best your boss says they can offer you as a salary does not have to be your salary, the best whoever you’re in a relationship with says they can do does not have to be what you accept.
“Allow People their Space to Flourish.”
As a practicing sagittarius, I have a natural aversion to being smothered. Smothering can kill - literally. When you allow your friends, family, and your lover space to explore their own interests, think about what they want to do with their own lives - then that can bring you closer together.
“The Flavor of Who You are Demands that You Set Goals and Realize Them”
A former flame told me this. I liked it and I interpret it as you need to be a somewhat interesting person in this life. A person without substance, who doesn’t nurture the talents they’ve been given from the heavens is no fun.
“Boundaries can be Walls or Gates”
Think about it.
“Overdose Them on the Pleasures of Your Company”
This one I heard in a romantic context, but it could also apply in a non romantic context. Bring a full body experience to your interactions with others. Smell people, touch people, feel people, listen to people, and breathe with people.
Don’t Compare Yourself
It never makes you feel better unlike other vices such as drinking and smoking. At least those make you feel better briefly (this is NOT an endorsement for drinking nor smoking).
Have you every compared yourself to someone and then thought afterwards I feel great? Well maybe if you were comparing yourself to someone worse off than you I suppose.
